Mohammed Alghoul, M.D.

Dr. Mo Alghoul is a Chicago Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids, face and breast. His training background is unique as he has performed subspecialty training in both cosmetic and oculoplastic (eyelid) surgery and microsurgery. His practice is dedicated to restoring the youthful look and natural form of the face and body.

Dr. Alghoul has a special interest and expertise in eyelid surgery. He trained under a world renowned plastic and oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Mark Codner. He performs all types of cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid procedures including comprehensive periorbital rejuvenation. He has co-authored several articles on eyelid surgery and facial anatomy in leading plastic surgery journals and lectured nationally on his work. He most recently taught an instructional course to other plastic surgeons at the main plastic surgery meeting (ASPS) on eyelid reconstruction. He offers all types of cosmetic procedures of the eye including upper and lower eye lift (blepharoplasty), brow and forehead rejuvenation, repair of droopy eyelids, midface lift and repair of lower lids after cosmetic surgery complications.

Dr. Alghoul is recognized for his extensive study of facial anatomy and expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face. He has performed hundreds of facial reconstructive procedures after removal of skin cancer and MOH’s surgery. He combines his knowledge and training in microsurgery with his cosmetic background and meticulous technique to perform complex facial aesthetic reconstruction after cancer resection or trauma. This includes restoration of complex structures of the face including the eyelids, nose, ears and lip. In addition, Dr. Alghoul performs both invasive and non-invasive facial rejuvenation procedures including face and neck lift, rhinoplasty, fat grafting, and skin resurfacing. He sees patients on regular basis who are interested in facial fillers and he follows a very conservative strategy that yields natural results that patients desire.

Dr. Alghoul’s second fellowship training in breast and microsurgery, lead to his special interest in breast reconstruction and a commitment to natural body restoration of each individual diagnosed with breast cancer. He is a firm believer that plastic surgery is not a cookie-cutter field of medicine, and each patient is unique. As such, he is particular in tailoring treatment to each patient individually in order to make the patient’s goals a top priority. He offers all types of breast reconstruction procedures from implants to autologous reconstruction which utilizes the patient’s own tissue to restore a natural looking breast. Dr. Alghoul has taken care of hundreds of women with breast cancer in the Chicago area and is part of a multidisciplinary team at the Lynn Sage Breast Center at Northwestern and Prentice Hospitals. He offers his patients all of the recent advances in breast reconstruction including one stage implant procedures, shaped implants, fat grafting, oncoplastic surgery, and the DIEP flap. He performs DIEP flap breast reconstruction routinely on patients who are good candidates and takes every effort to preserve the abdominal muscles during the procedure. In addition to breast reconstruction Dr. Alghoul performs cosmetic breast surgery including breast lifts and augmentation in addition to mommy makeovers such as liposuction and abdominoplasty.
Another area of interest and expertise in Dr. Alghoul’s practice is surgical treatment of chronic migraine headaches. He is one of a few surgeons in the Chicago area that offers nerve decompression surgery for patients with chronic migraine headaches with excellent success rates. He was featured along with one of his patients in the Chicago Tribune and has helped several patients overcome their debilitating headaches and regain their normal lives.

Dr. Alghoul is board certified in plastic surgery, and currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where he teaches students and surgical residents. He primarily works at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Prentice Women’s Hospital, but also performs surgery at Lurie’s Children’s Hospital and 900 North Surgery Center.
